About us
The history of the Öko-Melli Coop goes back to the middle of the ‘90s. In that time formed the Bio-apiary Group from the beekeepers with ecological approach. Because of the better exercise of our interest we combined a co-op in 1999 with 20 charter members. The next important stop was in 2002, when we incorporated with the Bio-Honig Co-op from Kazincbarcika. Our growing was continuous in the last few years, and now we have 68 members. Our honey turnover is about 150-200 tons/year, so we are the biggest co-op in this area in Hungary.
Our objective: To hoard the honey, produced by our members or member-groups, processing, selling, supply the required tools and materials for producing, and the market research.
Our region has very good capabilities to practice bio-apiary. The Black Locust forests in the Nyírség area are enormous in Hungary - and even the world as well. In this area the natural ecosystem is still alive, and free from the chemicals of the agriculture and industry, so provides excellent nectar to our assiduous bees. The Hortobágy National Park is under nature protection, so also a very proper area for bio-producing. The nectar from the wild flowers growing here and from other ecological vegetation provides you the purest and cleanest honey.
